Local History Week
We have recently learned a lot more about our area and about the influences of the past. During our local history week, we went for a walk down to Langley Lane to see the influences of Edgar Wood on Birch and then we visited the site of the old St Mary's church. Canon Phillip Miller told us a few stories about the site. We viewed the Hopwood family vault, looked carefully at the Cenotaph and found some interesting graves including that of a visiting gypsy and a man who developed a potato blight resistant potato. Back in class, we looked at old maps of Langley and were able to identify many changes. We also scrutinised old photographs that we were able to compare with the places seen on our walk.
