Class Learning - Summer Term

We will then be applying these skills to report writing and story writing. As we are now in the final term of Year 3, it is inevitable that the children take pride in the handwriting and presentation of their written work. Children are now expected to show some evidence of legible, joined handwriting. Why not practise some horizontal and diagonal joins at home?
In Maths we will continue learning how to use written methods for addition and subtraction, multiplication and division whilst developing mental strategies. We will be comparing and ordering fractions and we will begin to look at identifying equivalent fractions. We will also find fractions of shapes and amounts and link this to our times tables. Times tables link to all areas of Maths so please continue to practise these at home with your child. Calculating duration of time and making 3D shapes will also be objectives this term.

We will investigate the functions of different parts of a plant, learn about what they need in order to grow, how plants make their own food, how water is transported within plants, the life cycle of a plant and seed dispersal. We have planted our own sunflower seeds and will be observing how they grow and change over time. We will present our scientific findings in the form of an investigation, developing our ‘working scientifically’ skills by representing our findings in results tables and through the drawing of graphs.
