Ofsted March 2010
Staff and pupils at Bowlee Park Primary are celebrating after the school was judged as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. Inspectors visited the school in Middleton and concluded that it is an extremely happy learning community successfully providing education and care of the highest standard for all its pupils.
Pupils’ enjoyment of the school is clear to see and inspectors praised the teaching and curriculum provision which captured the pupils’ interest and actively engaged them in purposeful learning. Children spoke highly of the wide range of activities and interesting visits that are made linked to work they are doing.
Inspectors were impressed by the school’s ‘Can Do!’ culture that permeates all aspects of school life for both staff and pupils. Consequently, attainment is above average in English, mathematics and science.
In the Early Years Foundation Stage, children get off to a flying start and progress rapidly. Writing is strong in Key Stage 1 and there is a good emphasis on developing reading skills through the school.
Inspectors noted that the school has high care standards and knows each pupil and their family well. The school also goes ‘the extra mile’ to reach those who find it hard to be involved with their children’s learning or need help with matters relating to attendance.
The extended partnerships were also acknowledged which provide exceptional opportunities for pupils to develop their art skills and the opportunities offered by the adjoining sports centre
