We are committed to safeguarding the welfare of our pupils. We expect everyone to share this commitment. View the safeguarding section of our website for more information.
If your child is unwell and cannot attend school please ring 0161 654 0257 option 1 before 9:00am.
If we have not been notified about a child’s absence, the Attendance Officer will contact parents by telephone and a message will be sent via the Teachers2Parents text system.
On the second day of absence without notification it is likely that a home visit will be made.
Where we have further concerns, it is possible that a referral to Children and Social Care Services may be made.
The school and the Local Authority expect all parents/carers to ensure that their child attends school every day.
We have put together an important guide for parents:
Holidays in term time will not be authorised at Bowlee Park and will result in a Penalty Notice Fine. Department for Education legislation makes it clear that head teachers can only grant leave of absence during term time in exceptional circumstances. At Bowlee Park we will NOT authorise any holiday in term time. If your child is taken on a holiday during term-time it will be recorded as an unauthorised absence, and you will receive a penalty notice from the Local Authority. The school governors support this policy. You must restrict holidays to the 13 weeks of school holidays. The Penalty Notice fine is:
In the case of repeated fines, if a parent receives a second fine for the same child within any three-year period, this will be charged at the higher rate of £160.
Fines per parent will be capped to two fines within any three-year period. Once this limit has been reached, other action like a parenting order or prosecution will be considered.
This reflects the seriousness of unauthorised absence from school. Our key priority is to ensure your child/ren are as successful as possible, are able to reach their full potential and gain the maximum benefit from their educational experience. Missed education due to holidays is hugely detrimental to a child’s education.
If you make the decision to go against school policy and government guidance to take your child out of school for a holiday during term time knowing it will not be authorised and you will be fined, you must let us know by completing the following holiday notification form so that we can fulfil our safeguarding duties.
