Bowlee ParkCommunity Primary School

Knowledge...your passport to the world!

At Bowlee Park our RE curriculum is devised from the locally agreed Rochdale syllabus which encourages an enquiry model, ensuring that all children learn about Religion and learn from Religion. It is a multi-faith syllabus that reflects that fact that ‘religious traditions in Great Britain are in the main Christian, while taking account of the teaching and practices of the other principal religions represent in Great Britain’ (Education Act 1996 Section 375).

The RE syllabus is delivered to pupils from Early Years Foundation Stage (Reception) to year 6 and gives an insight into the following four major world faiths:

  • Christianity
  • Islam
  • Judaism
  • Hinduism

Children develop their knowledge and understanding of each of these religious through the following strands:

  • Believing – Religious beliefs, teachings, sources; questions about meaning, purpose and truth.
  • Expressing – Religious and spiritual forms of expression; questions about identity and diversity.
  • Living – Religious beliefs, teachings, source; questions about meaning, purpose and truth
