The most recent agreed syllabus for RE for Rochdale is a syllabus which encourages an enquiry model, ensuring that all children Learn about Religion and Learn from Religion.
Each year group will study 3 different religions over the course of the year. A term and half will be spent looking into Christianity and the other term a half will cover in Years 1 – 4 Islam and Judaism and in Years 5 and 6 Islam and Buddhism.
Our belief is that, by using an enquiry based model well, children’s critical thinking skills can be developed, their motivation to learn increased, and their knowledge and understanding of, and empathy with people and their beliefs, religious or otherwise, will be enhanced.
In the Early Years Foundation Stage children will focus the main religious festivals including, Christmas, Diwali, Hanukkah and Chinese New Year and they will also look at the different Holy Books and some stories from these books.
