Knowledge...your passport to the world!

French

At Bowlee Park children in Key Stage 2 are taught French for 30 minutes per week using the published scheme, ‘Primary Language Network’s Premium Plus.’ French is taught by most of Bowlee Park’s feeder secondary schools and so by the end of KS2 we aim to develop a strong foundation in the language, to be developed further at KS3. Along with English, French is the only language spoken on all 5 continents and an understanding of French opens up a cultural journey into the arts.

Our children are taught to:

  • Listen attentively to spoken language and show understanding by joining in and responding;
  • Engage in conversations, ask and answer questions, express opinions and respond to those of others, and seek clarification and help;
  • Read carefully and show understanding of words, phrases and simple writing;
  • Broaden their vocabulary and develop their ability to understand new words that are introduced into familiar written material;
  • Write phrases from memory, and adapt these to create new sentences, expressing their ideas clearly;
  • Describe people, places, things and actions in speech and in writing.

Below is a video with basic French phrases, have a look and practise your French.

Bonne chance! (good luck in French)
