Music

We aim to provide a high quality music education which engages and inspires pupils develop a love of music and their talent as musicians. Music is taught in an engaging, interactive and practical way with children studying a wide range of musical matters, skills and processes including singing, performance, reading and writing notation and composing music. Children study a range of music including contemporary and classical music, traditional music by British composers and music from a range of cultures. Music develops a range of important skills such as listening and evaluation skills, fine and gross motor control, self-confidence and creativity. As pupils progress, they develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose, and listen to with discrimination the best in the musical canon.

Opportunities are given to all pupils at Bowlee Park through a range of music activities and provision such as:

  • Curriculum music lessons for children in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 with a specialist music teacher.
  • Music teaching as part of the EYFS curriculum.
  • A school choir for children in Key Stage 2.
  • Regular performances throughout the school year to showcase children’s music learning and progress.
  • Singing and performances in assemblies and services.
  • Taking part in local and national music events.
  • A brass club for children to continue tuition on brass instruments after school.
  • A ukulele after school club for children wishing to further their skills learnt during lessons.
