Year 2 Charity project- ‘Cold Hands, Warm Hearts’

A big thank you to all children, staff and parents who donated items to the ‘Cold Hands’, Warm Hearts!'

‘Cold Hands, Warm Hearts’ is a local charity delivering help and support to those who need it most.  They go out on the streets of Middleton, and Manchester and the surrounding areas providing food and much needed items to people who have been forced to sleep rough. The donated items were collected today and the charity were extremely grateful for the wonderful donations. Your donations will make a big difference to many people this Christmas.

Visit from the fire fighters from Heywood Fire Station

This week we had some fire fighters from Heywood fire station visit school to speak to Year 2. We learnt why it is important to keep our homes safe from fire, what an effective escape plan and bedtime check is, what a smoke alarm is and that we should check the alarm once a week and how and when to dial 999.  Some of the children were chosen to demonstrate – ‘Stop, Drop n Roll’. The children really enjoyed the visit and learnt a lot from the session.

PSHE (SCARF) Workshop

We had a representative from SCARF (PSHE programme that we use) working with the children in Year 2.

The children learnt about the major food groups before looking at the interactive body model to learn how food, water and oxygen get into the body to give it energy. They looked at the Healthy Wheel, considering the different things we need to be happy and healthy. The children then helped Harold to work out what he needed to add, to ensure a balanced meal in his lunch box.
